Just a couple weeks after losing 4-0 at Barcelona and getting destroyed by the English media, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was under a bit of pressure Tuesday when the Spanish club made the trip to England for another Champions League group stage match.
After 90 minutes, that pressure has morphed into praise.
Manchester City convincingly beat Barcelona 3-1 on Tuesday behind two goals from Ilkay Gundogan and one from Kevin De Bruyne. After Barcelona took the lead in the first half thanks to a lethal counter attack that Lionel Messi finished, City was able to respond with Gundogan's goal just before half time off a fine pass from Raheem Sterling across the face of goal.
With the momentum, City came out with confidence in the second half and create various chances, but it was a set piece that got the Citizens their second. De Bruyne scored a glorious free kick on 51 minutes to take the 2-1 lead.
Gundongan then finished from close in the 74th minute and City held on to the massive win to move to seven points in the group stage, two behind leader Barcelona, who failed to create enough chances in the second half outside of an Andre Gomes shot off the crossbar.
After being heavily scrutinized in recent weeks, City turns it around and produces one of the best wins in their history and sets themselves up nicely to advance to the knockout stage.
Not a bad night.
