Mourinho said in July 2013 - when returning as Chelsea manager for a second spell - that the Blues did not have a successful 2012-13 season despite winning the Europa League under Rafael Benitez.
But the United manager feels the competition is a more attractive one now because of the rewards of winning it.
He said: "My opinions change because the rules change and the Europa League winner qualifies for the Champions League. For the past couple of years the Europa League has had new meaning for big teams."
