Memphis Depay took to Twitter following his return to Manchester on Monday, admitting that he “can’t wait” for training after scoring a brace for the Netherlands at the weekend.
The Manchester United winger tweeted the following message:
Depay helped Holland to a comfortable 3-1 win over Luxembourg on Sunday night in their latest World Cup qualifier, scoring his first-ever international brace to leave them second in Group A, three points behind leaders France after four fixtures.
However the 22-year-old Dutchman has endured an incredibly difficult season so far at Old Trafford under new boss Jose Mourinho, struggling to break back into the starting XI despite their poor recent form in the Premier League.
His absence has sparked rumours regarding his long-term future at the club, with Everton boss Ronald Koeman revealing his interest in a potential January move over the weekend, telling De tafel van Kees (via Sky Sports): “I would like to have him.
“I think he is an interesting player. He has great individual qualities. He just needs to play games.”
Depay has made just four Premier League appearances this term, all from the bench, amounting to 42 minutes of game time, as United sit sixth on 18 points, six adrift of the top four.
Next up for them is a home clash with Arsenal this weekend, before taking on Feyenoord in the Europa League.
Memphis Depay has an average pass accuracy of 71% in the Premier League this season.
